The Company: J.K. Ansell Ltd. (JKAL), the manufacturers and marketers of KamaSutra condoms is a 50:50 joint venture between the Raymond Group - the leading manufacturer and marketer in India for woollen and worsted textiles and Ansell International - the world's largest manufacturer of latex products with a turnover of approx USD 1 billion producing gloves and condoms at 14 plants in the US, UK, Malaysia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. Prior to the formation of the joint venture in 1996, the condom division was a part of J.K. Chemicals Ltd., a subsidiary company of Raymond Ltd. The division commenced operations in 1991 and launched KamaSutra the same year. |
| JKAL has a condom manufacturing plant at
Aurangabad in Western India with a manufacturing capacity of 250 million
pieces per annum. The production processes of the plant include Compounding,
Forming, Pin Hole detection, Sealing and Packing.
The plant is ISO 9001 certified and accredited for CE Mark from British Standards Institute, UK. We have elaborate testing facilities in-house. Our products also conform to various international standards like ISO 4074, BS 3704, ASTM and WHO. We also have the SABS permit and the United States Federal Drug Administration 510(K) approval for our products in the USA. The condoms manufactured by us conform to the schedule 'R' of Drug and Cosmetic Act 1940, India. In September 2000 JKAL commenced selling and distribution activity for Ansell gloves. The product range includes Gammex, Medigrip Sterile & Non-Sterile, Sensi-Touch & Nutex gloves. The primary buyers are major hospitals and nursing homes while the secondary market consist of the gloves retailing chemist outlets. |

Branded condoms apart, the company is also involved in institutional supplies to various countries. It has in the past supplied condoms under EEC, World Bank and UNFPA funded programmes to Bangladesh and Kenya. The company has also exported bulk products to Ansell International for the markets of USA and South Africa. |
